As Orthodox Christians, it is not enough for us to be passive observers in the life of the Church. We must take part. As a parish, we always looking for new ways to utilize our time and gifts to the glory of God and to the healing of his people. We call these good works “ministries.”

Established Ministries

Our parishioners have spent countless hours learning, sharing, and serving out their Christian Faith. Although it would be impossible to catalog all of the work that the people of St. Thomas have done, the following ministries have remained in constant:

  • Choir
  • Chanters
  • Altar Servers
  • Altar Guild (cleaning and maintenance of our holy things)
  • SOYO (Middle School and High School-aged youth)
  • Church School (aka, Sunday School)
  • The Ladies Club

New Ministries

In January of this year (2016) we began an ambitious work to expand our ministries program. The new ministry opportunities are designed to complement the work of the clergy and grow the spirit of fellowship and service already present in our community. Although now in their infancy, they will no doubt evolve to fit the needs of the parish and those of greater Siouxland:

  • Visitation Ministry – to visit the sick and homebound
  • Prayer Ministry – to foster a rhythm of prayer and facilitate intercessory prayer
  • Beautification Ministry – to proactively care for parish facilities
  • Altar Guild (cleaning and maintenance of our holy things)
  • Publications Ministry – to bind and publish documents that Glorify God and serve his people
  • Parish History Ministry – to tell the story of God’s work in the 100-year life of our parish
  • Parish Safety Ministry – to safeguard the people and property of the parish from natural disaster and domestic threats
